The Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the natural wonders of Africa — a vast, unbroken caldera that shelters one of the densest concentrations of wildlife on the planet. Within a single day you can see the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and black rhino.
The crater floor is a miniature world of its own — open grasslands, acacia woodland and the shimmering waters of Lake Magadi, where thousands of flamingos gather. Game viewing is exceptional all year round, which makes Ngorongoro an essential stop on any northern-circuit safari.
Best time to visit: year-round; June to September and January to February offer the driest conditions and clearest wildlife viewing.
