Tarangire National Park is Tanzania’s elephant country — home to some of the largest elephant herds in Africa, wandering beneath ancient baobab trees that look like they were planted upside down. During the dry season, the Tarangire River becomes a magnet for wildlife.
Expect lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras and enormous herds of elephants, plus superb birding with over 550 recorded species. Tarangire offers a quieter, more intimate safari feel than its more famous neighbours, with beautiful camps tucked under the baobabs.
Best time to visit: June to October, when the river draws dense concentrations of wildlife.
